The orchestra is dedicated to the traditions of professional music playing on folk instruments (mainly on the harp). The orchestra was established by decision of the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation in 1988 as the Chamber orchestra of the hussars with the Moscow regional state Philharmonic society. For outstanding contribution to the preservation, development and promotion of national gusli musical heritage in 1994 by decision of the Government of the Russian Federation the Chamber orchestra of the hussars was given the name "gusla players of Russia" and it received the status of the state team at the Ministry of culture of the Moscow region. Artistic Director of the group, Professor Yury Evtushenkois one of the leading educators of the country on the harp (she runs a class at the Moscow state Institute of culture), the author of the Practical course of the game using the harp. Chief conductor of the orchestra Maxim Evtushenko also leads the class of harp at the Moscow state Institute of culture. In addition, while working in a music College. Academy of music, he has released a large number of young musicians psaltery players. Many pupils these classes later became the orchestra "the gusli players of Russia", and also toured with solo performances. Principled position of the orchestra is the diversity of its repertoire: it includes not only arrangements of folk songs and folk tunes, but also compositions by contemporary composers, the works of Russian and world musical classics in original, unique arrangements for "the facts of the orchestra".  "Gusla players of Russia" cooperating with the leading soloists of musical theatres of Russia: the Bolshoi theatre, Music theatre. K. S. Stanislavsky and VL.And. Nemirovich-Danchenko, etc., More than half of all the concert orchestra is a vocal-instrumental compositions: folk songs, Russian romances, arias from operas and operettas, songs of the XX century. In the orchestra are honored artists of the Russian Federation, honored artists of the Moscow region, the winners of national and international competitions. Among the musicians, there are artists younger than 25 years. Since 1989, the orchestra has toured in Spain, Yugoslavia and Italy (Sicily). In 1992 I opened the first festival "Slavianski Bazaar" in Vitebsk. From 1992 to 1998, the orchestra toured Western Europe with concert programs "Tsar bell", "Russian Christmas", "an Evening of Russian romance" and "Melody of dreams", was performed at the Central Opera and Philharmonic venues in Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland and Spain. The team has participated in festivals in different regions of Russia, toured in Bulgaria, performed at the most prestigious concert venues, including at the State Kremlin Palace. During its existence the orchestra has released four compact disk, additionally, in 2018, came improved and expanded reissue of the CD "Silver liquid".
